Can you imagine what the future holds to the U.S. military forces? With the big push to colonize more areas not in the planet Earth, it makes sense for that military to learn a role in most from it somehow. And it appears to be that idea may soon turn into a reality, as President Trump himself has stated that creating a totally new branch from the military, one that’s dedicated solely for matters of defense and war in space, is in the cards.
Indeed, the POTUS said inside a speech recently how the U.S. may need the roll-out of a so-called Space Force, which may be designed with an importance on preparing the united states for space-related war efforts. Its existence would be depending on the proven fact that space will be the “ultimate high ground” which needs to be protected no matter what.
According for the POTUS, space in fact is the same as all of those other areas how the current branches of the military are supposed to protect. “My new national strategy for space recognizes that space is often a war-fighting domain, much like the land, air and sea,” he said within a speech to service members in San Diego. “We might have a Space Force.”
The President shared information of how the thought with this new military branch came to be. He said he was musing recently concerning the possibility of adding a real division for the military, in addition towards the ones that already exist, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. “I said, ‘Maybe we’d like a brand new force. We’ll call it the Space Force,” he was quoted saying. “And I was not serious. And then I said, ‘What recommended. Maybe we’ll need to do that. That could happen.’”
It may seem like a joke something like that that’s going to be impossible to do in the meantime, but you can find certainly those that support this idea in the military itself. It is said that the idea aligns quite nicely while using renewed focus from the military forces on maintaining U.S. space dominance.
Nowadays, maintaining this dominance in space is a bit more important on the U.S. than in the past, especially since other countries like China and Russia are starting to threaten the U.S. in connection with this. (Related: U.S. military to get more ROBOT soldiers than human by the year 2025.)
According to Navy Vice Adm. Charles A. Richard, the deputy commander of U.S. Strategic Command, developing a working space force could be beneficial within the same way that nuclear weapons are, by being deterrents. “Just as nuclear assets deter aggression by convincing potential adversaries there’s just no benefit to the attack, we must maintain a space posture that communicates a similar strategic message,” he explained. “I submit [that] the ultimate way to prevent war will be prepared for war, and we’re will make sure everyone should know we’re destined to be happy to fight and win wars in every domains, to feature space.”
With the military as well as the POTUS in complete agreement, it’s easy to visualize how this idea can really become real eventually. Now it is going to only be reliant on planning how it is going to be executed and locating a supply of funds for it.
